DIAMAGNETIC LEVITATION

Diamagnetic levitation enables objects to levitate at room temperature on earth without using power. Invented in 1939, this little-known technology was used primarily in scientific novelties. However, diamagnetic levitation has a much broader scope, including micro factory systems, levitated sensors of exquisite precision, and lossless bearings with unlimited lifetimes. Diamagnetic levitation is often used with elctro-magnetic drive forces to enable high speed and precise motion.

While at SRI, Ron invented the first self-levitated magnetic structure using diamagnetism, which enables micro factory and long motion transport. Diamagnetic levitation is primarily a small to medium scale phenomenon on earth. In space however, this technology is no longer limited to small objects, potentially enabling the levitation of much larger objects and structures.

Ron is the principal inventor on numerous patents in this field, including a license for levitated toys and novelties.

Diamagnetic levitation differs from any other known way of levitating or floating things…. Isaac Asimov found a use for diamagnetic levitation in his 1962 story The Currents Of Space.

DIELECTRIC ELASTOMERS

Dielectric elastomers are some of the most promising classes of polymer-based smart materials and technologies. This technology can be used in a very broad range of applications, from robotics and automation to the biomedical field.

ELECTROADHESION

Electroadhesion has the finesse to handle something as fragile as an egg, as flimsy as soft fabric and as unwieldy as a 50 lb barrel. It can enable wall climbing robots and the controllable adhesion of devices and materials.

POLYMER ENGINE

Recent developments in polymer technology have revolutionized the field of material science, including the design and development of engines. Polymer engines could reduce weight by up to 80% compared to metals, while providing a unique combination of low mechanical losses and extraordinary efficiency, especially for small engines. High temperature expanding gasses can drive an electroactive polymer (EAP) element to produce electricity and mechanical power, as well as varying between the two.

META MATERIALS AND SUPER STRONG STRUCTURES

Meta materials have emerged as a new frontier of science involving physics, material science, engineering, and chemistry. Meta materials could build better smartphone camera lenses, contribute to making efficient solar cells less bulky, construct satellite trackers that never need to move, serve as portable, energy-efficient satellite communication units for soldiers on the battlefield, and enable silent machine processing through noise cancellation.

The diamagnetic micro factory system is a patented platform technology based on a complex system of local magnetic fields generated by a circuit board. A configurable software program manipulates the field to move miniature levitated robots, which are themselves magnet arrays. Each individual robot is part of a collective...like ants in a colony...and every robot has a specialized task to perform.
