The diamagnetic micro factory is a patented platform technology based on a complex system of local magnetic fields generated by a circuit board. Configurable software manipulates the field to move miniature robots, which are themselves magnet arrays. Robots and transport devices can be integrated with other devices including sensors and testing equipment.

Ron is the principal inventor of the levitated micro factory system, a flexible miniaturized platform able to control thousands of complex automated devices. Adding diamagnetic levitation enables high speed, zero wear and frictionless movement. Zero friction and wear let robots operate with electronic reliability.

The diamagnetic micro factory can create extraordinarily complex systems through massive parallel processing; multiple systems can be easily linked through proximity and flex circuits that can transfer robots and materials. A single 12” x 12” system can control 144 independent robots with over 400 degrees of freedom of motion without wear or friction, and an even larger number, (up to ~ 400) of non-independent robots able to execute parallel motions. The platform can be configured through standard software programs, providing flexibility and the ability to rapidly prototype. Additionally, the platform relies on conventional printed circuit boards enabling low-cost commercial production. Diamagnetic micro factories can revolutionize product development and non-manufacturing automation with functions such as pick and place, testing, sensing, and rapid prototyping.

Ron holds over 25 patents in micro factory technology, which draw on his expertise in diamagnetic levitation and metamaterials.
